Archdiocese of San Antonio
Established August 28, 1874
The Catholic history of the region goes back to the days of the Franciscan missionaries and the founding of Mission San Antonio. The Diocese of San Antonio was split from the Diocese of Galveston, and Anthony Dominic Pellicer made its first bishop. It was raised to archiepiscopal status in 1926.
