Archdiocese of Boston

Established April 8, 1808

After Baltimore, Boston was one of the first dioceses in the United States, created with Bardstown, Philadelphia, and New York. Its first bishop was Jean Louis Lefebvre de Cheverus and it was elevated to archiepiscopal status in 1875.
