Villanova University

Founded 1842

In 1841, Augustinian friars purchased the Rudolph Estate outside Philadelphia with the intention of building a college. Fr. John Possidius O'Dwyer was the first president of the school, originally named Augustinian College and placed under the patronage of St. Thomas of Villanova.
