St. Louis Hospital (Mullanphy Hospital)St. Louis Hospital

St. Louis, Missouri

Founded 1828

Irish-American millionaire John Mullanphy founded this, the first Catholic hospital in the United States. Bishop Rosati invited Sisters of Charity to staff the hospital, which began as a three-room log cabin before Mullanphy built a new, brick building to house the institution. Its activities were transferred to the De Paul Hospital in 1929.
