Catholic Summer School of America, 1892–1940

Known popularly as the "Catholic Chautauqua," the CSSA consisted of an eleven week summer season, including lectures, courses and entertainment, primarily for the education and formation of Catholic laypeople. Its sessions, held beside Lake Champlain near Plattsburgh, included among it speakers Presidents McKinely, Taft, and Theodore Roosevelt.
