St. Joseph Prot-CathedralBasilica of St. Joseph Proto-Cathedral

Bardstown, Kentucky

Cornerstone laid, 1816

Bardstown, Kentucky, was one of the first four dioceses in the United States (with Baltimore, Philadelphia, and New York) and the first west of the Alleghenies. The see was moved to Louisville in 1841, but the original cathedral stands as a testament to pioneer-era Catholicism. It was named a basilica July 18, 2001.
