Archdiocese of Omaha, Nebraska

Established October 2, 1885

The Diocese of Omaha began as the Vicariate of Nebraska in 1857. Bishop James O'Gorman was the first resident vicar apostolic. The second vicar was James O'Connor, who became the diocese's first bishop when it was erected, embracing the states of Wyoming and Nebraska.
