William Russell Grace (1832–1904)

Philanthropist, Mayor of New York City

Born in Ireland, Grace settled in New York in 1864 and became a successful entrepreneur and business executive. He was mayor from 1880–1888, the first Catholic to hold that office in America's premier city. His charitable foundation, the Grace Institute, was established in 1897.
