
Born George Michel in St. Paul, Minnesota, he joined the Benedictines of St. John’s Abbey in 1913. He was a major writer on social issues and on the liturgy. A leading figure in the liturgical reform movement in the United States, he founded Orate Fratres (later Worship) in 1926.
