Thomas Fitzsimons (1741–1811)

Signer of US Constitution

Born in Ireland, Fitzsimons settled in Philadelphia and became a partner in his father-in-law's shipping and brokerage firm. Sympathetic to the cause of independence, he won election to a Revolutionary government post and then raised and commanded a company in the American army. He later represented Pennsylvania in the Continental Congress and the Constitutional Convention. With Daniel Carroll, he was one of two Catholic signers of the Constitution.
