Venerable Solanus Casey, OFM Cap (1870–1957)

Born Bernard Casey in Wisconsin to Irish immigrants, he received the name Solanus upon joining the Franciscan Capuchin order in Detroit in 1897. As a priest he spent 20 years in the New York metropolitan area serving the poor, then moved to St. Bonaventure Monastery in Detroit, where he worked as the building's porter.
