Patrick Cardinal O'Boyle (1896–1987)

Archbishop of Washington, D.C., 1948–1973

O'Boyle was born in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and became a priest for the Archdiocese of New York in 1921. When Washington, D.C., was made a diocese, O'Boyle became its first archbishop, and then cardinal.
