Patrick Robert Guiney (1835–1877)

Born in Ireland, Guiney came to the United States at age 5 and studied at Holy Cross College. He was a lawyer in Maine and Massachusetts before joining the Union Army at the outbreak of war. He served with distinction, reaching the rank of brigadier-general, and was severely wounded at the Wilderness (1864). After the war he was involved in local politics.
