Born in Albany and raised Episcopalian, Brady converted to Catholicism before marrying his wife, Genevieve Garvan, in 1906. He became president of one of the largest utilities in the country, New York Edison, in 1912, and was a significant contributor to Catholic causes, especially the Society of Jesus.
