Nicholas Black Elk (1863–1950)
Native American leader
A medicine man of the Oglala Lakota tribe, Black Elk was present at both the Battle of Little Big Horn and the Wounded Knee Massacre. After the death of his Catholic first wife, he became Catholic and worked as a catechist.
