Mother Mary Aloysia Hardey (1809–1886)

Born into an old Maryland Catholic family, Hardey's family moved to Louisiana. There she was educated by the Sisters of the Sacred Heart and joined the order in 1830. She became a superior in 1835 and was responsible for the foundations of numerous convents and schools. Her final years were spend as assistant general of the society at the sisters' motherhouse in Paris.
