Father Leonard Feeney (1897–1978)

Ordained a Jesuit priest in 1928, Feeney was a prominent author and editor. In the 1940s took up residence at the St. Benedict Center, a Catholic outreach on Harvard Square in Boston. Later in the same decade, he became the central figure in the Boston Heresy Case, was dismissed from the Society of Jesus, and, in 1953, was excommunicated.
