Archbishop of New Orleans, 1935–1964

Born in Germany, Rummel was ordained a priest in New York in 1902. He served as the fifth bishop of Omaha before being promoted to a long tenure in New Orleans. Among his many achievements there was the successful though contested integration of the city's Catholic schools.
