Fr. Joseph Bayma, SJ (1816–1892)
Scientist
Born in Italy, Bayma joined the Jesuits in 1832. In 1868, he came to the United States, assuming the rectorship of
St. Ignatius College
. In 1871, he moved to the Jesuit college at
Santa Clara
, where he taught mathematics.
