Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen (1895–1979)

Radio and TV personality, Bishop of Rochester, New York

Born in Illinois, Sheen was ordained for the diocese of Peoria in 1919. He studied philosophy and theology with distinction in Europe and at Catholic University of America. His Catholic Hour radio program debuted in 1930 and his television show, Life is Worth Living, became one of the most popular programs of the 1950s. He was named bishop of Rochester in 1966.
