Francis Marion Crawford (1854–1909)

Novelist

Born of American parents in Italy, Crawford spent most of his life in that country. A convert to Catholicism, his novel Mr. Isaacs (1882) made him famous and he subsequently published dozens of novels that were popular both in the United States and Great Britain.
