Cardinal Francis Brennan (1894–1968)

A native of Shenandoah, Pennsylvania, Brennan was ordaind in Rome for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia in 1920. A canon lawyer, he returned to Rome as Auditor of the Roman Rota in 1940 and rose to the rank of Dean of the same court in 1959. In 1967 he was ordained a bishop and designated a cardinal of the Church.
