The "Fighting 69th"
A regiment of Irish volunteers, the men of the Fighting 69th distinguished themselves in many battles, including Gettysburg, and was one of the most bloodied regiments in the Union Army. The legendary unit's exploits in World War I became the subject of a 1940 major motion picture starring James Cagney.
