Eva Ross (1903–1970)

Sociologist

Ross immigrated from Northern Ireland in 1930 and earned a Ph.D. in sociology at Yale. As head of the Department of Sociology at Trinity College in Washington, D.C., she was one of the first American Catholic laywomen to hold an academic position. She was elected president of the American Catholic Sociological Society in 1943.
