Ellen McCormack (1926–)

Presidential candidate

The abortion issue spurred McCormack, a homemaker from Long Island, New York, to seek the Democratic nomination as a pro-life candidate. She became the first woman to earn matching federal funds in a presidential primary, but was eventuall defeated by Jimmy Carter for the party's nomination.
