Archbishop Charles John Seghers (1839–1886)

Bishop of Victoria (Vancouver Island), British Columbia, Archbishop of Oregon City

As the bishop of Western Canada, Seghers had charge of missionary efforts in Alaska, newly ceded to the United States. It was during a long trek through the Alaskan wilderness in the aim of establishing missions among the Ten'a natives that Seghers' traveling companion went mad and fatally shot the prelate.
