Caroline Gordon (1895–1981)

Born in Kentucky, Gordon was working as a journalist when she met and married poet Allen Tate. Gordon converted to Catholicism in 1947 and Tate followed three years later, but their troubled marriage eventually ended in 1959. Gordon wrote a number of short stories and novels; the most popular was Aleck Maury, Sportsman (1934).
