Mother Benedict (Vera) Duss (1910–2005)

Abbess

Born in Pittsburgh, Duss graduated from the Sorbonne medical school in 1936, and soon after entered a Bendictine convent in France. After World War II, she returned to the United States to found the first Benedictive abbey of contemplative nuns in this country, Regina Laudis in Bethlehem, Connecticut.
