Archbishop Anthony Blanc (1792–1860)

Bishop, Archbishop of New Orleans, 1835–1860

Young Father Blanc volunteered to serve the mission territory of the American South at the behest of Bishop Dubourg of New Orleans. During his tenure as bishop he established the diocesan seminary and invited numerous religious congregations into the diocese. When the status of the see was raised in 1850, he became its first archbishop.
