Alvar Nuñez Cabeza de Vaca (1490–ca.1556)

Cabeza de Vaca was a Spanish explorer who joined the 1526 expedition of Pánfilo de Narváez to Florida. He and three companions wandered and lived for nine years among the natives of Texas and Mexico as they made their way west, becoming the first Europeans to cross North America via land.
