Pierce v. Society of Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary

Decided June 1, 1925

The Supreme Court of the United States upheld the decision of a federal district court, which overturned Oregon legislation requiring all grammar-school students to attend public schools. The law effectively prohibited Catholic and other private schools; the Court's ruling, therefore, permitted the continued existence of such schools.
