Founding of the Missionary Society of St. Paul the Apostle (Paulists)

1858

The Paulists originated when a group of Redemptorist priests, led by Fr. Isaac Hecker, left that congregation to form a new society, dedicated especially to outreach to the non-Catholics of the United States. They began their ministry in New York under the sponsorship of Abp. John Hughes.
