Founding of the Catholic Educational Association

(Later, the National Catholic Educational Association)

July 14, 1904

Monsignor Denis J. O'Connell was the first president of the CEA, founded in St. Louis. It is a voluntary association of individuals involved in all levels of Catholic education. Since 1929, its headquarters have been located in Washington, DC.
